I have been dabbling in graphic design world since 2004, even before I graduated with my bachelor degree. This is an enjoyable world to inhabit, since I can explore my artistic side but still balanced it with practicality so the artsy doesn’t go overboard. That’s pretty much sum graphic design I guess, a work of art that has practical purpose.
Simply put, my usual line of work is getting a concept from client (or my boss who got briefed by the client), then explores this concept and lays it out visually. Of course the hardest part is actually catching on with what the client really wants, sometimes I ask question like “What do you want people to feel when they see your flier (or poster, etc)?” to get an idea of what characterize the design. Then I explore the main idea by using sketches. Sketches are always recommended as a basic ground, so I don’t waste 2 hours staring at the computer and getting nothing. I usually made at least three alternatives for the client to choose.
My works are mainly done in advertising agencies and photo studios, as can be seen from my varied portfolio. Doubling up as a copywriter, I write most of the body-copy too. Hopefully these designs can show my design styles and abilities.
